Martin is also a keen falconer. He used to regularly fly his Lugger falcon, Rama and when time allows in the future Martin will be eager to fly falcons once again. His fondness and knowledge of these birds extends to his veterinary interests. Together with wife Kerry, they now have a female kestrel called Gixer. Gixer was brought to the surgery in the autumn of 2008. She had sustained injuries rendering her unfit for release to the wild, so she was kept and trained to fly by Martin and Kerry.
In contrast, Martin is also a bit of a petrol head! Again, when time allows, he participates in the Midland Hillclimb Championships in his motorbike engine powered Hi-Tec. He also enjoys motorcycling, both on and off-road.
He and Kerry enjoy walking Acer, their fox red Labrador, and have two cats called Frostie & Kahn.
